Q&As

A Sewing Machine Repair Technician fixes various issues in sewing machines for optimal performance.

What type of sewing machines do you service?

I service most home sewing machines with a few exceptions. I do not service:

Bernina - With Gray/Black shells/covers or those with a capital "B" in the model name. Those machines must be serviced by an Authorized dealer due to needing specialized tools.

Viking Epic Series - Epic 1, 2, 3, 4, 95Q or 97Q. Due to their delicate computer boards.

Do you offer a warranty on your work?

Absolutely, I stand by my work. All repairs are backed by a 30-day warranty. If you machine misbehaves just contact me.

What are you?

I am an Independent Sewing Machine Service Apprentice Technician, which mean I do not work for a dealer of a particular brand like (Viking, Bernina, Necchi, etc...). Instead I work on all brands of any age; antique, vintage and most modern sewing machines. As a Sewing Machine Repair Technician, I specialize in diagnosing and fixing issues with sewing machines. From mechanical to electrical problems, I provide expert repair services to ensure optimal machine performance.

What other issues can you repair or take care of?

The short answer is, most everything you would probably need.

The long answer is, I can help you resolve:

  • Machine does not turn on or power up.
  • Bobbin or thread jamming issues.
  • Uneven or skipped stitches.
  • Tension problems or inconsistent stitching.
  • Unusual noises or excessive vibration.
  • Some error codes displayed on digital screens.

Beyond the issues already listed, I can also help with a wide range or additional sewing machine concerns, including:

  • Needle breaking or bending issues.
  • Feed dogs not move fabric properly.
  • Presser foot pressure adjustments or malfunctions.
  • Thread bunching or looping underneath fabric.
  • Motor performance issues or weak power output.
  • Belt wear, slipping, or replacement needs.
  • Hook and bobbin case damage or misalignment.
  • Stitch selector or mechanical control issues.
  • General tune-ups to restore smooth, quiet operations.
  • Deep cleaning to remove lint buildup in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Lubrication and reconditioning of internal components.
  • Preventative maintenance to improve longevity and performance.

If something isn't working quite right, there's a good chance I can diagnose and take care of it - or at least point you in the right direction.

How often should I have my sewing machine serviced?

That's a great question! It really depends on how often you use your machine and the types of materials you sew.

As a general guideline:

  • If you sew 12 hours or less a month, servicing every 12-18 months is usually sufficient.
  • If you sew daily for an hour or two, consider services every 9-12 months.
  • If you rely on your machine for your livelihood, service every 3-6 months is recommended.
  • If you frequently work with fluffy, furry or lint-heavy materials, it's best to have your machine serviced every few weeks/months.
  • If you plan to store your machine, it should be serviced beforehand to help prevent rust and deterioration.

Regular maintenance helps keep your machine running smoothly and extends it's lifespan.

How long does a repair take?

Depends on the issue; repairs typically take anywhere from an hour to 2 weeks, depending on parts availability. I'm not a magician, but I promise to work my sewing machine repair magic as fast as I can.

Do you service Sergers, Longarm or Commerical/Industrial sewing machines?

No, currently I do not, but hopefully in the future.

Why can't I drop-off or pick-up my machine?  Why do you handle pick-up and drop-off?

I wanted to let you know that, due to the location of my workshop, I’m not able to offer drop-off or pick-up for sewing machines at this time. The sidewalks around the workshop are quite uneven and can be tricky to navigate, and I’d feel awful if anyone got hurt trying to get here. Thank you so much for understanding—I really appreciate your care and support!
